“Summer Saga” set to begin June 7th and will run until July 10th

EDWARDSVILLE, IL (June 7, 2021) – Today Ultimate Gaming Championship’s scholastic arm – UGC EDU – is thrilled to announce that the Summer 2021 season of Battle Academy will begin on June 7th and run until July 10th.  In partnership with SHI, LG, Intel, MSI, Horizon AVL, Logitech, Respawn and Learn2Esport, UGC EDU will offer Rocket League competitions to high school and collegiate student-athletes that participate in Battle Academy.

In response to requests from players in previous seasons and in the spirit of summer, this season of Battle Academy will allow players to compete with student athletes that attend a different high school or college than they do. This year’s competition will also introduce divisional play, sorting teams into divisions based on that team’s average player skill level. Players will compete for their chance to outfit their own home setups with an esports kit full of top tier gear, including prizes from Respawn, LG and Logitech, with their own Battle Academy jersey to boot.

“Battle Academy’s 2020 launch was an overwhelming success that has given students a new avenue to hone their skills in multiple competitive esports games while attracting interest and even financial assistance from colleges looking to bolster their nascent esports programs and rosters,” says LG Business Solutions USA gaming monitor expert Aaron Addison. “As a leading sponsor for the tournament, LG Business Solutions USA provides professional broadcasters to cover the live, online competitions on Twitch, solidifying the series as a force to be reckoned with amid a rapid rise in viewership and general interest.”

“Our partners are showing the care that the scholastic esports space needs,” says UGC Founder and CEO Matt Jackson. “We are putting more eyes on high school and collegiate esports competitions while encouraging schools to consider peripheral benefits such as boosting physical and mental health and the new career pathways emerging within the growing esports market. Thanks to our amazing lineup of partners we are offering a no-cost-of-entry model that develops an all inclusive opportunity for students of all backgrounds and provides scholarships with amazing esports gear.”

“We have an amazing crew of partners collaborating on Battle Academy, ensuring its continued success,” added SHI Senior Mobility Team Manager, Amy Troxell.  “From Day 1, we’ve made it a priority to support schools at every level of esports program adoption while giving students more opportunities to compete. Colleges and universities are recruiting students based on their performance in Battle Academy and this motivates us more to keep it going”. “SHI is dedicated to supporting students and educators across the nation around esports, computer science, career and technical education and STEM as a whole, ” said Dr. Katrina Adkins, current educator and SHI Senior Program Director for Education.  “Our education team recognizes the overwhelming interest in gaming and continuously broadens our reach by way of esports in schools. Esports is not just about gaming, rather it supports students by fostering equity through job opportunities and exposure to a rapidly growing market.”
